Hwy 49 – the Mother Lode. View the 13 pound Frigot Nugget that had been was lost for many years. See the oldest courthouse in continuous use west of the Mississippi, it’s open for docent led tours on Saturdays. The old county jail still stands not too far from the courthouse. The south end of Mariposa has authentic buildings dating back to the Gold Rush. Stroll through this small section of town to feel the gold fever that brought this community into existence.

Continue to Coulterville on windy Hwy 49. Stay to enjoy the view before dropping into the canyon on your way. Be sure to stop at the Jeffrey Hotel and see the room in which President Teddy Roosevelt stayed in 1903. Be sure to go thru the swinging doors of the bar and view history at its best.

This tour is flexible enough to go to Hornitos, a buffalo ranch, an alpaca farm, wine tasting or coffee tasting by prearrangement as time permits.
